Lets face it, life of a freelancer/soloprenuer/enterprenuer can be quite lonely. In the early days and months of running your own business, there will be a lot of alone-time, working unsociable hours and putting everything you have into making your vision a reality. You invest so much time, energy and money in creating something that you believe in. Many times people around you don’t really understand what you are going through, or why you are doing it. Lack of support in this endeavour can be quite difficult, when you need all the support you can get.

I meet many people during my work as a documentary storyteller. But at the end of the day, the editing work I do is in my home office, on my own. Don’t get me wrong, I need the quiet space to do my work, but sometimes I just feel that I would like to have a coffee break with someone, who gets what I am going through, exchange ideas together, or even get someone’s opinion on something I am working on.

Many freelancers I met along the way told me they have the same issue of lacking a support system of like minded people. So I thought, why not get everyone I know in touch with each other to create a network of like minded people that supports each other along the way. People who know what it is like to create their own business, deal with the ups and the downs, and provide solutions for ideas one might be stuck with.

In 2015 I created a creative group in Basel, that meets once every few months. The members of our group are creative freelancers, entrepreneurs and solopreneurs ranging from photographers, graphic designers and filmmakers to architects, musicians, business owners, web designers, and illustrators. We are an international group based in Basel, Switzerland. Our meetings are very causal and involve mostly networking in English. We are always happy to listen and help out if someone has something they would like feedback on, or an idea they would like to pitch to the group.

As the years as a freelancer go by what I learned is exactly this saying:
Life is about the people you meet and the things you create with them.
Cheers from Basel!
